Greeter Protocol

When you are assigned the duty of being our greeter, you should remember the following:

1. You should be at the meeting by 11:45 AM in order to greet everyone as they come to the meeting.

2. You should bring a "Greeter's Gift" for the raffle. The gift should be approximately $20.00 in value.

3. You will be leading the giving the inspiration of the day, leading the salute to the flag, and introducing the visiting Rotarians. It is a good idea to watch the visiting Rotarians sign in, so that you can ask them about any complicated names or classifications.

4. If you cannot attend, it is your responsibility to find a replacement.

Meeting Notes For May 17, 2018
Crows Call for May 17 by Tom Port

Opening: Lucky says “Ian Riseley is R.I. President and his motto is: “Rotary, Making a Difference”.

Greeter: Carolyn Degnan filled in for Kathy who is in Guyana. Her “Thought for the Day” was: “Be the person your dog thinks your are!” She led us in or Patriotic Song: “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee…”

Visitors: Sorry the list is not complete, but I recall “Spike”, i.e. Robin Von H., Elizabeth Carrillo, Steve Wilcox (not a visitor), but we were glad to have him back, Paula, and Julie Disch. Rotoractors: Taylor Lee, Justin, Joan and Ernest came back from the Cal Campus to join us for lunch.
Club News: Lucky reminded us that we now have a “Pay-as-you –go” policy so if you are presenting an event please advise Marie Galbo the number of guests and visitors you expect.

Recognitions:
Edgardo Carrillo, Dennis Harvey and Don Bierman were honored with a $50 charge to their accounts. Chris Gallagher tried to dodge it somehow, but he apparently suffered a similar fate.
PROGRAM: Stacy Litteral presented the “Unsung Heroes Program”. This is our club’s yearly program in which we honor volunteers in our community who have demonstrated exceptional devotion and selflessness toward making our community a better place.
Marilynn Hoffman, nominated by Kimi Miyamura, has volunteered at the San Ramon Regional Medical Center since 1990. She has put in over 4000 hours working at the front desk, helping train other volunteers, decorating the lobby and gift shop for the holidays, etc. A donation was made in her honor to the American Heart Association.

Som Swamy has volunteered as a driver for “Meals on Wheels” for seven years and has put in over 700 hours delivering over 7000 meals for seniors and others unable to make it to a grocery or restaurant. He was nominated by Nancy Raniere. Som’s Friday route takes about two hours and serves about 16 clients. Som says he just wants to give back and this has been “the best job of my life”.

Patsy Galate was nominated by Carol Rowley for her work on behalf of the San Ramon Historic Foundation at the Forest Home Farms. Patsy has been conducting walking tours for students and visitors since 1999. She loves to maintain the barn are and “her” herd of sheep. She takes plenty of time with each visitor to answer their questions and to allow students to pet the lambs, to demonstrate the carding of wool, etc. Having been raised on a farm in Kentucky she has a deep seated love of the park and its animals. She never tires of organizing events such as the sheep shearing which has both delighted and instructed over 3000 visitors.
Carol Lopez-Lucey, a volunteer for the San Ramon Parks & Community Services, was nominated by Becky Adams. Carol was not present, but a donation will be made in her honor also.
All remained after the luncheon for group photographs.

Raffle: Marie Galbo won the Greeter’s Gift. Elizabeth won the Progressive Raffle but drew a blue ball. Next week a winner will have a chance to win $150.
