Greeter Protocol

When you are assigned the duty of being our greeter, you should remember the following:

1. You should be at the meeting by 11:45 AM in order to greet everyone as they come to the meeting.

2. You should bring a "Greeter's Gift" for the raffle. The gift should be approximately $20.00 in value.

3. You will be leading the giving the inspiration of the day, leading the salute to the flag, and introducing the visiting Rotarians. It is a good idea to watch the visiting Rotarians sign in, so that you can ask them about any complicated names or classifications.

4. If you cannot attend, it is your responsibility to find a replacement.

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY
MADE SIMPLE

We all think we choose what path we take in life, who we socialize and mix with, what views we hold. But those decisions are actually shaped by networks of people - David Brooks. The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST: The Development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service. Rotarians have the opportunity to create relationships with many business, professional, and community leaders.

SECOND - High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society. Being a Rotarian authenticates the person and their business or profession.

THIRD - The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life. Rotarians nurture this personal characteristic; the cornerstone of building and sustaining relationships.

FOURTH - The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service. Rotarians become better world citizens and often build lasting international relationships.

ROTARIANS INFLUENCED BY THE OBJECT OF ROTARY HAVE MADE THEIR FAMILIES, BUSINESSES, COMMUNITIES AND THE WORLD BETTER. WHAT THEY DID IS A BY-PRODUCT OF WHO THEY ARE AND THE IMPACT THE OBJECT OF ROTARY HAD ON THEM PERSONALLY.

Meeting Notes for May 16, 2019 "Unsung Hero Awards"
Crow’s Call for May 16, 2019 by Tom Port

Call to Order: Kathy Gailey assumed the helm as “Copy Cat” was otherwise occupied. She recited the obligatory “Barry Rassin is R.I. President and his theme is ‘Be the Inspiration’”!
Greeter: Kathy, assisted by McKenna Lay, also gave the “Thought for the Day”: “Be the Change You Want to See in the World”.   McKenna selected Don Jones to lead us in the Patriotic Song: “God Bless America”. McKenna is a senior at Cal. State East Bay.
Announcements:

District Assembly is the present weekend, May 17- 19 at the Peppermil Reno.
On-Line Auction: Don Bierman was inaugurated to head up next fall’s On-line Auction. Jerry Marrs “passed the baton” with a big lollypop, but backed it up with a, presumably necessary, bottle of Jameson Whiskey.
Glen Weber introduced past Rotary Exchange Student Carolina Caterina of Argentina. She was formerly sponsored by the Duartes and the Dischs.

Member News: Horace Crawford is in a care facility. Dennis Harvey is home bound. You might give him a call.

Recognitions: Jullie McKinny, Cathy Gailey, Don Bierman and one other fortunate member were recognized with appropriate donations assigned to each.

Program:  Chris Gallagher introduced the four honorees in our annual “Unsung Heroes” program.

Pat Barrata was unfortunately not able to attend in person, but sent a message of appreciation for the honor. He is a tireless volunteer for the Endoscopy Department at SRR Medical Center assisting with everything from cleaning and preparing patient beds to assisting with patient discharges. He has contributed over 5, 133 hours of service.
Danielle Martinez served as a volunteer for “STAND! For Families Free of Violence”. She has contributed over300 hours of time over the last four years. She works with the 24/7 “crisis line” where she provides compassionate and empathetic support. (STAND would lover to receive items of furniture such as dressers or night stands, but not mattresses).
Robin Godon is one of the original Caring Hands volunteers and helped design the spirit and parameters of the program giving 2,539 hours over 20 years helping others. Robin embodies the ideas of “constancy of caring” helping seniors remember who they are, what the are good at, and why they matter with her friendly, empathetic and generous spirit.
Shirley Ernest is considered a champion of the community. She is actively involved with the San Ramon Historic foundation where she is the Vice President of the board. She has been involved with the Senior Center for over 20 years, and has also been active as a Performing Arts usher

Many thanks to Chris for this excellent program and to the other members of the Committee: Stacy Literal, Colette Lay, Don Jones, Hermann Welm, Kathy Gailey and Chris Gayler.

Raffle: Julie McKinny won the Greeters Gift of $20. Norbert Walz was a chance at the Progressive, but drew a blue ball. So the purse next week will come to $240.
