by Tom Port Call to Order: As “Top Gun” was lining up with the runway he called our virtual group to order with a wry smile obviously rejoicing that his time is short. In fact, Chris seemed in remarkably good humor despite the drubbing our resident sage gave him by way of “ode” - delivered from a safe distance by a stand-in, Terry Koehne (If I am not mistaken). Holger Knaack is R. I. Pres. and his theme is “Rotary Opens Opportunities” Greeter and Thought for the Day: Our substitute greeter for the day was Mike Conklin who advised: “Whatever you do, do it with kindness. Whatever you say, say it with kindness, and wherever you go, radiate kindness”. The Flag Salute was followed by the Welcoming Song, “Aloha”. Visiting Rotarian: Judy Denning is a member and Past President of San Rafael Rotary, the oldest club in Marin County. News We May Have Missed: Chris brought us up to date with news of firefighters rescuing a teenager from a chimney, spider’s webs in the Florida sky and rescue of a bear from the rafters of a commercial building. Honorable Mentions: Gary Sloan, Steve Wilcox, Alan Love and Fred Nevarez’ wife Melanie were recognized for birthdays. Tom Port, Barry Toby and Mike Conklin were noted for anniversaries. Announcements: The Demotion Party was a terrific success. Many thanks to Julie McKinney and family for hosting the event in their beautiful backyard. Club Survey: Be sure to fill it out as big decisions have to be made for next year. Terry Koehne’s first meeting is July 8th. Main Event: Colette Lay introduced Bhavya Doshi, President of the Rotaract Club we sponsor who discussed the year’s activities and events. Bhavya says committed to challenging the status quo and fighting racial inequities and has learned over the year to find balance and compromise. We also heard from her excellent leadership team who said they were grateful for the opportunity to learn to work as a team, to create a safe space for everyone and to give back to the community. The group has held mentoring events with professionals from various fields to talk about their experiences and careers. They held fund raisers over the year for projects in India producing $2000 on their own and then $4,316 from supportive organizations. Bhavya’s goal for next year includes increasing their number by 20 to 30 members; their next event is this coming Saturday, a Sunset Picnic. Colette will send around some notices.
