Meeting Notes for May 28, 2022
by Tom Port

Terry opened with this signature salutation: “Arriba, Abajo, A centro, Adentro”. Of course he is feeling his oats as he only has one more meeting before his gets his “walking papers”.

Rotary RI President is Shekhar Mehta and his theme this year is “Serve to Change Lives”.

Our Greeter: Cheri Braga led us in a “Moment of Silence” all those suffering from the tragedy in Texas. She then led us in the Flag Salute and Pledge of Allegiance. Cheri joined our club during the past year. She has been a Danville resident for 7 years and lives at Crow Canyon CC. She has a daughter age 38 who is a PGA gold Pro and a 2 ½ year old grandchild.

Art and Wind Festival: We will have two beer and wine booths at the festival. Norbert has worked tirelessly to line up staff but it appears that in spite of a number of covid sufferers he has about got the job done. However, He could still use some additional volunteers as the staffing is still a bit tenuous.
Which is
Be sure to stop by even if you can’t work at the booth. Also, buy some delicious Chinese food from the Rotaract booth next to our booth along side Bollinger Cyn. Rd.

June 9 and June 30 there will be NO MEETING

Our Program was presented by Lisa Blanchard, founder and head of the “Grateful Garment Project”. The Grateful Garment Project was created to provide dignity to the victims of sexual violence. Most victims do not realize the clothing they were wearing when the assault happened will be taken for evidence and often they are sent home in a paper hospital gown. This is another violation they should not have to experience.

The Project, which is 100 per cent donor funded, is a 501©(3) organization and accepts tax-deductible donations. In kind donations of only new, (or in some cased nearly new) clothing and personal effects including toiletries are requested.  As the average age of victims is 23, and many are children, all sizes are needed. Lisa Blanchard’s project is so much in demand that it has expanded to fifty counties and has distributed over 1.5 million dollars worth of supplies.

Because victims of sexual assault often become perpetrators themselves the Grateful Garment Project has established a program called Operation Esteem which provides mental health treatment for them. To incentivize the victims, especially the children, to complete their course of treatment the program offers $10 gift cards for return visits. Donations of such cards would be gratefully accepted.
